I’ve always enjoyed being prepared. For anything. I’ve also always had a very healthy respect for citizen soldiers and those that are ready to go to work at the drop of a hat. With that in mind, combined with the fact that I’ve been binge watching The Walking Dead, I’ve come to the tough conclusion that I am woefully unprepared. I would not do well in the zombie apocalypse. But a man can change!
The bright spot in my preparedness is around medical preparation. I have impressive first aid kits put away. Part of this is because I have toddlers, and as any parent knows, they can injure themselves in amazing ways just getting out of bed. However, I must admit, I don’t have a grab and go bag or some form of organization that is ready for action. So I went searching for a solution. I wound up with several.
I decided to have to have a couple different setups. For my car, I went with a something I found after googling “best tactical backpack” and found an option that wasn’t too flashy. I don’t want something that stands out, but I do want the functionality to strap different things to the outside with carabiners, and leave it in the trunk. It is made by a company called 5.11, and it is perfect. It feels nice, and I can take it on day hikes and small overnight camping trips. But also, it’s plenty big to have the necessities I need in the car to feel slightly more prepared for the zombie apocalypse. I may do another post later about the actual contents of the bag. For now, suffice it to say I have a decent medical kit, some water, light food, and things a boy scout would be proud of (think firestarters, road flares, pocket knife, flashlights, etc). After playing with the backpack for about a week, I liked it so much I bought a second one for the house.
Anyway, I feel more prepared, and some of the minor tools have already come in handy! Do yourself a favor and have a designated car bag.
